Everton turn to Germany in their search for attacking help

Everton’s summer transfer window has been an absolute roller coaster to date, and the period in which teams can register new players isn’t even open yet. Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, and Henry Onyekuru are through the doors at USM Finch Farm, with Sandro Ramirez and Michael Keane set to join very shortly.

There is, however, work left to be done. The presumed departures of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley leave major holes in the goalscoring department, and so Ronald Koeman continues his trek around Europe to find more balance in the squad.

Bild, a major German football publication, is reporting today that both Arsenal and Everton are interested in acquiring the services of Bayer Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi.

And to Karim Bellarabi (transfer between 25 and 30 million), especially English clubs like Everton and Arsenal have thrown an eye.

Given the injury to Yannick Bolasie and the departure of Gerard Deulofeu, the Blues desperately need an inventive offensive player out wide, and the German fits that description to a “t”.

Bellarabi, 27, has 14 career caps for the German national team. He struggled somewhat with injury this past season - specifically a torn muscle - but still bagged 4 goals and 6 assists in 19 appearances.

Bayer Leverkusen had a massively underwhelming season given their talent level. Die Werkself finished 12th in the Bundesliga despite having players like Bellarabi, Kevin Volland, Javier Hernandez, Bernd Leno, Omer Toprak, and Kevin Kampl.

Given Leverkusen’s lack of European football next season and Bellarabi’s age, it makes sense that he could be seeking a new challenge and a fresh bumper contract.

The 27 year old is an excellent creative force and a German international. If the opportunity is there, Steve Walsh and Ronald Koeman would do well to pursue this player further.
