Everton linked to Mexico star

He’s off to a great start this season, with PSV in Holland

Mexican winger Hirving Lozano is absolutely on fire for PSV Eindhoven, who are dominating the Eredivisie this year. With ten goals and three assists in just over 1200 minutes, he clearly has life in Holland figured out after just arriving this year from CF Pachua.

Now, Mexican paper Super Deportivo de Leon has linked Lozano with a move to the Toffees. Now, I know what you are thinking Everton just tried the whole ‘buy a Dutch league star’ and all we got was a Davy Klaassen”. Okay, fair, I see that concern. But this time, Ronald Koeman won’t be making the buy and I think that makes all the distance. Koeman’s buy of Klaassen wreaks of a spasm of homesickness, and as an 8 Klaassen really had no place in this squad from the moment we bought a certain Icelandic superhero that we all know and love.

Lozano is a wide attacker who would fit our scheme. From a tactical perspective he would actually make good sense on our side of Mersey, and check this out:

As much as I am completely sold on Lozano as a player, I do have a couple of reservations. First of all, the reported price here is £45m. That’s a lot of money and I think it’d be quite a lot to ask this kid to perform at Gylfi type levels, which is what that price tag would suggest.

Second, when I look at our current roster I see players like Vlasic and Lookman and on loan I see Henry Onyekuru, and I wonder how another young winger fits into the long term plan. I’m extremely excited about all three of the winger prospects we already have, and I just don’t know what another one does to that development.

At the right price, I think Lozano is worth looking into, but we do need to figure out exactly how that fits with a forward thinking approach to building our roster.
