Moshiri: Everton are close to appointing a manager

Comments come on the heels of 5-1 Atalanta drubbing

After one of the most embarrassing showings Everton supporters can remember, the club’s owner Farhad Moshiri came out today and spoke on the topic of the managerial search.

After almost a month has passed without a full time manager and the uncertainty and instability of the club is now showing itself on the field in the body language of the players as well as on the scoreboard.

However, according to Sky Sports reporter and longtime Moshiri confidant Jim White, Everton are inching closer to appointing a new manager:

While Moshiri’s comments are surely meant to inspire some level on calm among an increasingly concerned and upset Toffees fan base, surely only decisive action, followed by immediate results, will bring anything of the sort.

David Unsworth has been hung out to dry for the past month as the players drift further from each other without a manager who can cite long-term standing in the role.

In spite of those challenges, with a win this Sunday the Everton legend has the opportunity to have picked up seven of a possible twelve points (7/12), while the departed Ronald Koeman was only able to muster 8/27 to start the campaign, and that was after winning the first match of the season.

(Translation: the Dutchman picked up 5/24 to finish his run at the helm. Ouch.)

The matches have been ugly but there is no denying Unsworth could POSSIBLY have done just enough to keep us out of a relegation battle assuming an uptick upon the appointment of a new manager.

Assuming Unsworth does not get the full time role, whoever is appointed (please let it be Thomas Tuchel) will be tasked with meeting Moshiri’s first task: stabilize the club.

With the current mood among the fans, the players seemingly going through the motions without direction and the matches coming fast and furious through the holiday season the task couldn’t be more daunting.

Good luck.
