Everton to end chase for Marco Silva - but where do they go now?

Everton have reportedly given up on their pursuit of number one managerial target Marco Silva.

The Independent report that Everton finally accept the Watford boss is not going anywhere until at least the end of the season.

The news is a major blow to the Toffees, who are now back to square one in their hunt for a replacement for Ronald Koeman.

Watford have already rejected two approaches and offers of compensation from Everton for Silva.

They also released a strongly-worded statement last weekend insisting he was not going anywhere mid-season.

That put the ball firmly in Silva’s court, who is reportedly keen on a move to Goodison Park.

He repeatedly refused to commit his future to Watford in numerous press conferences last week, raising hopes amongst supporters that a deal could well be reached.

However, according to Independent journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke, Silva will not resign or move without Watford’s blessing, leaving Everton with nowhere to go.

If Everton have indeed given up it leaves them once again with three options: search for another long-term manager, a short-term firefighter, or give it to David Unsworth until the end of the season.
