Everton exasperated by Niasse charge

Everton have released a brief statement in the wake of the FA’s dismissal of the Blues appeal against the Niasse ban.

"Although we are disappointed by the decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission to reject Oumar’s denial of the charge, the Club and the player accept the outcome of today’s hearing.

"We will make further comment when we have fully reviewed the observations contained in the report."

Everton are not going to take the decision by the Football Association to make an example of Oumar Niasse lightly. Reports from the Daily Mail state that the Club is irate and lodged an appeal yesterday against the two-match suspension for the Senegal striker.

The Blues contest the charge that he successfully deceived the match official by going down in the box. Referee Anthony Taylor had immediately pointed to the spot in the fifth minute, and Leighton Baines stepped up to equalize 1-1.

The appeal will be heard by an independent regulatory commission on Wednesday, with the player having a legitimate case as there was clearly-visible contact between defender Scott Dann and Niasse.

If the ban stands, Everton’s top scorer will miss Sunday’s game at Southampton and the following week against former Blues manager David Moyes as he visits with West Ham United.

Niasse is the first Premier League player to be found guilty of simulation after the fact following the institution of new regulations this season. Shaun Miller of Cardiff and Bailey Wright of Bristol City in the Championship received two match bans last month for the same offence.
