Everton Loans Recap: Onyekuru scores late winner

Speedy forward Henry Onyekuru was the pick of Everton’s youth crop plying their trades elsewhere this weekend. The Nigerian starlet popped up to score what turned out to be the winner with just ten minutes to play as Anderlecht won 2-1 away at Royal Excel Mouscron.

The Purple & White have climbed up to 3rd in the Jupiler League in Belgium after enduring a difficult start to the season, but behind Onyekuru’s seven goals have picked up four wins in the last six games.

Back in England, Kieran Dowell was powerless to stop Nottingham Forest from slipping to a 1-0 loss away at Birmingham City, a result which keeps the Reds in 11th place in the Championship. The win lifted City out of the relegation zone, but on-loan midfielder Liam Walsh is still not getting any game time under Steve Cotterill and could return to the Blues in January.

Joe Williams had a solid game as the pivot in front of defence as Barnsley drew 1-1 away at Norwich City. The Tykes are in 16th place in the Championship, albeit with a game in hand.

Defender Matthew Pennington was a last minute sub as Leeds United got back to their winning ways after losing three straight games. They find themselves in seventh place, 12 points behind league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Callum Connolly picked up a booking before being subbed off at the eighty minute mark for Ipswich Town as they drew 2-2 away at Hull. The versatile player has been used as a defensive midfielder by manager Mick McCarthy.

Antonee Robinson and his Bolton Wanderers side drew 0-0 away at Preston, a result that keeps them second from bottom. After a series of eight consecutive losses, the Trotters are much Improved going unbeaten in their last six games.

Bottom of the Championship table are Sunderland who drew 2-2 at home to Milwall. Tyias Browning was a late substitute while Brendan Galloway continues to sit in the Black Cats doghouse. Sunderland appointed former Wales boss Chris Coleman as their new manager after the game, and it remains to see if this will turn around the fortunes of the two Blues there.
