Should Everton make Tony Pulis their next manager?

I don’t like it either.

Okay, I’m gonna give everyone a brief moment to voice all their consternation at the idea of Everton playing Pulis ball. Aaaaannnnnd go:

Okay, if that’s out of our systems now, let’s look at the facts. Sam Allardyce has moved on from the idea of coaching the Blues, Watford is clearly going to do everything possible to keep their coach- including filing charges with the FA, if needed.

Thomas Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti, or really anyone of that ilk simply aren’t going to bother with a relegation threatened side who can’t beat Crystal Palace. David Unsworth is in way over his head. Yes he is, don’t argue with me. Everton just drew Crystal Palace.

David Moyes just signed up for West Ham United, because he’s just brilliant at picking managerial positions. Chris Coleman just went to Sunderland, because apparently his life goal has been to coach in League One (sorry to our friends at Roker Report, but seriously, what are the odds y’all actually stay up?).

What are the options? Tony Pulis kept a deteriorating situation at West Bromwich Albion alive for longer than it deserved given the lack of talent or resources at his disposal. Frankly, WBA just increased the likelihood of their going down by letting him go. His style of play is English in the very worst way - harsh to the eye, pragmatic, lacking creativity - but he gets decent results.

No, I don’t want him to coach a single second beyond the final whistle of this season. No, I don’t want him overseeing a grand transfer treasure trove. No, I don’t even particularly want him to be the guy to step in now, I’m just not seeing a lot of better alternatives.

Maybe it’s possible that we go out and unearth some as of yet undiscovered managerial diamond in the rough, and wouldn’t that be great? But sitting three points above relegation, Should Everton take that risk?

Hopefully this Silva thing works itself out and he can coach the Toffees, but if that doesn’t click in the very near future, I’m not sure Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri have a much better option available to them to ensure survival than to hire Tony Pulis... and frankly just typing that makes me shudder.
