Everton to lock up midfielder to new long-term deal

Toffees reward Senegalese midfielder for strong start to Goodison career

From the moment Idrissa Gueye stepped onto the pitch for Everton, it was clear it was a match made in heaven, and it appears the relationship between the hard-tackling midfielder and Everton is set to continue .

According to ESPN, Idrissa Gueye has agreed to a 5-year contract extension with the Toffees, meaning the Senegalese destroying will be patrolling Goodison Park (and the next home of the Blues) for the foreseeable future.

Since joining the Toffees in the summer of 2016 as one of the first signings of the Walsh/Koeman era, ‘Gana’ as he is commonly known, has proven to be one of the best ball-winning midfielders in the Premier League.

His exploits have not gone unnoticed, however, as Arsenal and other unnamed Premier League clubs have been chasing the midfielder signature, no doubt another motivation for the Toffees to tie down Gana for the long term.

By offering such a lengthy contract to the midfielder, Everton are showing him how valuable a piece of the puzzle he is, regardless of the other big signings the club makes.

A fan favorite, the announcement of Gueye’s extension comes as a welcome distraction during a tumultuous week for the Toffees which has seen them lose their manager, and be eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

Everton fans will rejoice in knowing that while elements of the club are in flux, the Toffees midfield will be in good hands for the next few years.

Continuing to build a relationship with Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies, and the rest of the Everton midfield, Gana is now in a position to cement himself as a club legend and be part of the foundation upon with a brighter future for the Toffees will be built.
