Harry Kane on his 100th goal: “I didn’t mean it”

Harry Kane’s 100th goal in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt was... well. Um. It was, uh. Yeah.

It sure was something!

Kane’s milestone goal, which came in the first half of Spurs’ dominant 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison park... well, let’s just call it “fluky.” Kane fired a long, floating ball in towards goal from well outside the box that he obviously intended as a cross. Well, it went in past Jordan Pickford, giving him an important career tally and giving his teammates something to rib him about in the changing room.

Here’s the goal for those who might have missed it.

Kane’s 100th goal may not have been intentional, but it’s certainly going to be one that he’ll remember! Afterwards in comments to the BBC, Kane said that, yeah, he really didn’t mean for that to go in.

“No I didn’t [mean to shoot]. I think everyone could tell it was a cross.

I got a lucky one but sometimes you need that, I said that in August sometimes you just need a break to go your way and luckily I got that and managed to get the second as well.

“It has been a crazy few years and to get 100th goal was amazing. Hopefully I can get a few more.”

Kane’s brace puts him at 101 career goals, making him already Spurs’ third highest all-time goal scorer in the Premier League era, behind Robbie Keane (118) and Jermain Defoe (139). He’s now tied for 16th place with Billy Minter on Spurs’ all time goal list.
