Did a barbershop just confirm Tottenham Hotspur’s latest signing?

If you can believe the Instagram of Equinox Gentleman’s Refinery, Southampton keeper Paulo Gazzaniga could be coming to Spurs.

This might be the strangest Tottenham Hotspur transfer rumor yet. According to the Instagram page of a Southampton barbershop, Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga is switching clubs, and the implication is that he could sign with Tottenham Hotspur.

Well, okay, let’s back up a bit and be clear: this Instagram post from Equinox Gentleman’s Refinery in Southampton doesn’t specifically mention Tottenham Hotspur. But it does strongly imply that Gazzaniga is leaving the club, and Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked to him for weeks now. People talk to their barbers, though. It’s not shocking that Gazzaniga’s hairdressers would be among the first to know about his departure.

Spurs have a vacant position for a third goalkeeper behind Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm after the collapse of the Pau Lopez deal and the departure of Luke McGee to Portsmouth earlier in the summer. It was thought that youth keepers Alfie Whiteman or Brandon Austin could fill that third keeper position, but perhaps not.

It’s worth noting that as this article is being written Southampton are playing West Ham United, and Gazzaniga is not in the side, with Alex McCarthy on the bench for Soton behind Fraser Forster.

Mauricio Pochettino has said that he wants four players in before the close of the transfer window. Davinson Sanchez is one, and it looks like Gazzaniga is another one. With rumors about Juan Foyth and Ross Barkley still floating around, adding a third keeper as one of your four signings isn’t exactly the most exciting addition, but the Argentine would be a safe pair of hands if disaster strikes Hugo and Michel.

This signing wouldn’t set anyone’s hair on fire, but it is kind of appropriate that a hairdressers’ shop could confirm the latest addition to the Tottenham Hair Club for Men. And to be fair, he does look pretty good in those photos.
