Six Tottenham Hotspur players called up to England squad

The international break is bad and ridiculous, especially now that England have already qualified for next summer’s World Cup. That said, this is pretty cool: six Tottenham Hotspur players have been called up to the England national team for next weekend’s international friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

Alphabetically, that’s Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier, and Harry Winks. That’s pretty special, even if I’d rather that none of them actually play a minute for Gareth Southgate’s squad so as not to risk them getting injured and curtailing Tottenham’s league ambitions.

Southgate is apparently using this squad to give a few younger English players a chance. Winks, of course, is getting his second ever call, and Southgate is also handing first time England senior call-ups to Chelsea/Swansea’s Tammy Abraham, Chelsea/Crystal Palace’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.

England will host Germany at Wembley Stadium on November 10, and host Brazil four days later. Both matches start at 8 p.m. UK, 3 p.m. USA.
