Some interesting quotes from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp came up when the German spoke with the media before Liverpool’s Premier League season opener.

You can find the exact quotes below but needless to say this is some high praise indeed. Obviously no manager is going to proclaim their own team favorites but it sounds like that Klopp is a real admirer of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

"The favorites must be Manchester City actually. They played some incredible football last year and had just a couple of problems. They are definitely the favorites. Manchester City is in attack mode, that is obvious.

They already had an incredible team last season and then Jesus joined them and I thought, 'Oh my goodness'. I mean he is very young and really strong. Incredible player - and now they got some defenders as well. They will be interesting to watch.

"We actually have a good record [against City]. Of course, there is no guarantee that that record will stay this way, but we do have some ideas how to play against Pep's teams. Nevertheless, it is always tough.

"Manchester City being the favorites, doesn't mean they are going to end up winning the title. They are my favorites, but we can gather our points without looking at them, since we only play them twice. So we don't really need to think too much about them."

Most City supporters, barring the super cynics, would most likely predict City to win the league or at least finish in the Top 3 again. As far as Liverpool are concerned, their title challenge will really depend on keeping Philippe Coutinho. If the Brazilian stays and they can add one or two more key players, then the Reds could challenge for the title along with City.
