Rickie Lambert has admitted he struggled to cope with Mauricio Pochettino’s fitness demands when the Argentine was first appointed as Southampton manager.

Lambert, who announced his retirement last week, was speaking to the BBC when he revealed Pochettino would give him extra fitness drills on a Monday morning after playing 90 minutes at the weekend.

The 35-year-old claims he went to speak to his new manager to reveal his concerns about the workload. What happened next? Have a listen below.

I assume Lambert eventually came round to Pochettino’s philosophy given his good form that year. Those who aren’t willing to adjust are usually ousted pretty quickly.
