Real Madrid have identified Harry Kane as a backup option if a move for Alexis Sanchez fails, according to reports in Spain.

Manchester City came close to signing Sanchez on deadline day but the Chilean stayed with Arsenal, meaning he’ll be free to leave the Gunners for nothing at the end of the season.

Spanish outlet Don Balon (via talkSPORT) believes Madrid are confident of signing Sanchez, but the La Liga giants have identified Kane as a potential alternative.

Kane officially introduced himself to Europe with his two-goal display against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week.

The world’s best clubs would be foolish not to be at least keeping an eye on Tottenham’s talisman. It’s all merely speculation right now, and Spurs will be very determined to keep hold of Kane for the foreseeable future.

  1. Only the ones who either didn’t read what he said or are just plain incapable of understanding it.

He didn’t say he didn’t want to win league and FA Cups, he said if you target the league and CL you might win league and FA Cups on the way, and winning them would be good. It is about mentality: if you tell players they are in a cup team and aiming for the second tier of trophies, you might just get players who are inconsistent and believe they are second best. If you tell them this, you can hardly be surprised if they don’t believe they can win the league of CL.

And a lot of this reaction comes from those ultra-pessimistic Spurs fans who just plain, plum refuse to accept how good the club and team are now, or just how much potential they have. The ones who persistently claimed we would never break into the top four – and they were “only” being realistic. The ones who persistently claimed we would never finish in the top four two seasons running – and they were only being realistic. The ones who have started every one of the last eight seasons, since we first qualified for the CL, by saying we would be lucky to finish seventh – and they were only being realistic (despite the club only finishing lower than fifth once in those eight seasons, and that was sixth ? ). The ones who now persistently claim that we have zero chance of winning the league – and they are only being realistic, despite being the club who finished second and have strengthened in both attack and defence, which were best attack and best defence in the league last season. And that is what is colouring their reaction to this. They don’t believe we will ever have a chance to win the league or CL. So they believe we should target the second tier trophies. It blinds them to the positive message Pochettino is sending out. It blinds them to the negative message he would be sending out if he said what they think he should. It blinds them to the fact that Poch really intends on winning leagues and Cal’s with Tottenham and that he believes he can do so. I’m with Poch!
