Tottenham have agreed a deal with Stoke City for the transfer of defender Kevin Wimmer, both clubs have announced.

Stoke have confirmed the fee for Wimmer is £18 million. He has signed a five-year deal.

Spurs completed a deal for Ajax centre-back Davinson Sanchez last week. Young Argentine defender Juan Foyth is also set to join, leaving Wimmer surplus to requirements.

The Austrian joined Tottenham from Koln for £4.3m in the summer of 2015. The club looks set to make quite the profit on a player who barely featured in the first team last season.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news.

  1. Very good player and a great signing for Stoke. He deserves first team football so I cant begrudge his move but I think he still had a lot to offer Spurs. Best of luck to him!
