The former Liverpool defender hails Philippe Coutinho's performance in a deeper role for the Reds at West Ham
Jamie Carragher hailed Philippe Coutinho’s unstoppable performance in Liverpool’s 4-0 win at West Ham on Sunday.
The Brazil international started in a central role for the Merseyside outfit as Liverpool made the trip to the English capital looking to cement their top-four position.
Coutinho played a decisive role in Liverpool’s opening goal after the Brazilian midfielder found Sturridge with an incisive pass to allow the striker to break the deadlock.
The South American extended the away side’s lead in the second half with a finish from outside the area after Georginio Wijnaldum hit the crossbar.
The Barcelona target made it 3-0 after Coutinho weaved his way past two West Ham defenders before placing his finish past West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Coutinho’s third goal in Liverpool’s 4-0 win at West Ham, ex-defender Carragher said:
“He’s playing a new role. He followed the pass.
“You can’t stop him in small spaces. The goalkeeper has no chance. He smashes it in from close range.”
