Liverpool are reportedly considering a swap deal involving Lucas Leiva and Mateo Kovacic.

According to the Star, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to let Leiva join the Italian club if it means he can secure Kovacic, a Croatian international who has also been linked with Arsenal.

Kovacic would not come cheaply: he signed a five-year contract with Inter in January and would cost around £20million if bought outright. But Liverpool hope to negotiate a much smaller fee, if they can persuade Inter to take Lucas, who has not featured as regularly for Rodgers this season.

Liverpool are keen to bolster their midfield options as they prepare for life without Steven Gerrard, who will join LA Galaxy at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, the Mirror has reported that Memphis Depay's representatives have visited Merseyside to discuss a possible move to the club.

The PSV Eindhoven is a target for Manchester United this summer and the Old Trafford club would appear to be the favourites for his signature, with his representatives having also reportedly visited the club's Carrington training complex this week.

But The Mirror claims an Anfield delegation including chief executive Ian Ayre met Depay at Manchester airport for "secret talks" over a move on Thursday.
