Confusion reigns

Nearly an hour past the Spanish deadline passed and still no news. It does really make you wonder, this. The De Gea deal has been on the cards all summer and they still leave it to the very last minute and are now risking it not going through.

De Gea back at Old Trafford where he doesn't want to be might well not be the De Gea of last season, and the fans might not be too happy to see him. United could also end up losing him for nothing in a year.

It could well still go through but it is difficult to see how it ever came to this.

The authorities in La Liga will want the biggest, best, most high-profile players playing in Spain, and if that means bending the rules a little to suit their most important importers, they won't think twice about doing so.

It is now being reported that Real Madrid DID NOT get the paperwork through in time and as things stand, David De Gea will remain at Old Trafford. As deals go through late every season, I'm not at all convinced this will stop the deal going through.

West Ham co-chairman David Gold has confirmed that his club want to do three more deals by the 6pm deadline tomorrow (presumably Song, Jelavic and Moses). We shall have to wait and see which ones they manage to push through.

The Spanish transfer window closes in an hour and three minutes. It is presumably only a matter of time until the De Gea deal is announced, but they need to get their skates on with the paperwork. I don't think he'd be welcomed back too readily if it were to fall through.

Norwich add prolific Congo striker

Dieumerci Mbokani has joined Norwich on a season-long loan. With 19 goals in 46 appearances for Dynamo Kiev and a further 15 in 30 at international level makes him an exciting addition to the squad.

African sport journalist Oluwashina Okeleji says Mbokani is 'a total finisher, who has power and ability to get himself free in the box.' He also highlights that his goal record speaks for itself.

Cryptic Griezmann tweet raises eyebrows

What does this mean for Antoine Griezmann's potential suitors in England? The Atletico Madrid and grance winger has tweeted out a message which does not alone make a great deal of sense, but might do tomorrow. Literally, the tweet translates as 'Tomorrow, it'll match! Stay tuned', along with a winking emoji.

Make of it what you will, but it could put Manchester United and Chelsea on alert. Will it all make sense this time tomorrow, Antoine?

Brown Ideye arrived at the Hawthorns bringing with him so much hope. A £10 million then club record signing, Ideye has now left for Olympiakos for an undisclosed fee, or in other words, at a significant loss. His departure could be a blow to Spurs' hopes of signing Saido Berahino, meanwhile.

Everything is falling into place for David De Gea to complete his dream move to Real Madrid, and Keylor Navas has kept up his end of the bargain by accepting a presumably rather handsome contract offer from United.

Representatives of the London club have supposedly been spotted in Sao Paulo to tie up a deal for former Brazil forward Alexandre Pato. The picture in this tweet is meant to show those 'representatives' but, to be honest, they just look like any old men in suits.

Chicharito to Leverkusen confirmed

Javier Hernandez has signed for Bayer Leverkusen for £7.3 million.

There are also increasing reports that James Wilson will be loaned out for the season either to West Brom or Spurs. Louis van Gaal really wants to start the season with as few strikers available as possible, doesn't he? Or maybe he just wants to clear the path for him to play Fellaini up front all year.

Reports are emerging that Hull have had contact from Leicester with regards to right-back Ahmed Elmohamady. He's good enough to be back inthe Premier League but if Leicester are going to keep up their title bid much longer surely they need to aim a little higher...

Liverpool are busy

Brendan Rodgers has done a few pieces of business, but nothing of real note as of yet. Youngsters Samed Yesil and Sergi Canos have joined Swiss side FZ Luzern and Brentford on loan, respectively, while Liverpool have also signed Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, but he has joined FSV Frankfurt on loan.

Real Madrid and Man Utd agree De Gea fee

Marca, who aren't the most reliable of sources for a lot of things, have reported that the fee for David De Gea has been agreed and will be between 30-35million euro.

They also say that Real Madrid are trying to convince Keylor Navas to head to Manchester but he is not keen. At all.

The Daily Mirror say sources have told them that David De Gea flew to Madrid on a private jet late last night and is working out the details of his contract at the moment.

They also say that the amount will be less than United wanted, but isn't that always the way?

One for the Football Manager fans...

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has signed for Schalke 04 on loan from Bayern Munich for the season.

“Pierre-Emile can play in several positions in midfield and so makes us a lot more flexible,” sporting director Horst Heldt has told Schalke's website. “He is a great fit to our team.”

In the last few versions of Football Manager (yes, I am aware it's not the same as real life) Hojbjerg routinely becomes one of the greatest midfielders in the world within a few seasons. Players who have been similarly highly rated and gone on to justify the hype include Ronaldinho, Leo Messi, Paul Pogba, Javier Saviola and Pablo Aimar. Something something Cherno Samba.

Plus, as I mentioned earlier, actual Premier League and European clubs use their database to scout players. So stop moaning.

Anthony Martial fee downgraded to £36million

It seems like L'Equipe may have jumped the gun with their estimation of an €80 million bid for Anthony Martial. Sky Sports reckon the fee is closer to £36million but it's very likely there will be a lot of add ons based on the potential the player has.

Arsenal still want to sign someone

Jeremy Wilson says it's more likely any Arsenal transfer dealings will happen tomorrow (Tuesday), if they even do:

"Arsenal still hoping for one deal but nothing is progressed and, if it happens, much more likely to be tomorrow.

Wenger happy to go with this squad and believes he has enough goals in the team.

Availability of senior strikers is the problem, as shown in Manchester United going for Anthony Martial."

Umm I'm not sure if this is real life anymore. There are numbers flying around for this Martial to Manchester United deal that are both scary and ludicrous.

L'Equipe say he will cost €80 million, making him the most expensive French player in the history. I... I don't know what's going on. I made this cartoon last summer but now Ed looks like he's gone mad.

Chelsea agree £2.7m deal for Djilobodji

The Telegraph's Matt Law says:

"Chelsea have agreed a surprise £2.7million deal with Nantes for Papy Djilobodji, with the player poised to sign a four-year contract.

The fact Djilobodji can play in the centre of defence or as a defensive midfielder would suggest that the 26-year-old is being signed as a stop-gap before Chelsea launch new bids for John Stones and Paul Pogba, either in January or next summer."

Wow this came out of nowhere - well played Chelsea. I honestly think I enjoy transfers like these more than the £30million ones. Give me an unknown full back for £1.5million any day of the week.

West Ham are busy

In addition to Alex Song and Nikica Jelavic, West Ham are also rumoured to be interested in taking Victor Moses from Chelsea. One deal that won't be happening though is the rarely mentioned Emmanuel Adebayor one. Even Aston Villa don't look like they'd take him. Tim Sherwood will be feeling sad today.

This one happened very quickly. French football blog 20 minutes says Papy Djilobodji is in London for a medical with Chelsea oh hang on a minute, it's a football blog that I don't know. Does that mean the story isn't true? Only time, and Chelsea football club, will tell. I'm filing it in "hopeful" for now.

Liverpool about to sign man I've never of

If you visit our Liverpool transfer liveblog you will discover a story about Liverpool, a bunch of cash and a Nigerian teenage striker. Jason Statham is expected to play the lead role in the movie adaption.

The general plot is 18 year old Taiwo Awoniyi joins Brendan Rodgers' team from Imperial Academy for an initial fee of around £800,000.

Paul Hayward has this to offer (and I have to say I 100% agree with it):

"With John Stones, David de Gea and Victor Wanyama it would be nice to think a fightback is underway by clubs to preserve the sanctity of contracts. For several years now the mantra has been: "If a player wants to leave you can't really stop him."

Agent-inspired chaos has ensued. The signs are good, but there's still time for clubs to cave in again."

No agreement on price for De Gea yet

According to Spanish radio station Ondacero, Keylor Navas is unsure about a move to England and Real still haven't reached an agreement on a price for David De Gea. You are going to absolutely hate this story by the end of tonight. Sorry, I mean hate it more.

Anyway, Telegraph writer Mark Ogden has said this about the transfer:

"Interesting decision for Manchester United if Real Madrid offer them Keylor Navas as part of a deal for David de Gea.

When I visited Real's training ground in January, the subject of Navas came up as a result of his heroics at the World Cup with Costa Rica.

The view among the Real coaching staff was that the 28-year-old was the perfect goalkeeper for La Liga due to his footwork and athleticism.

However, it was felt that the more physical nature of the Premier League, and the aerial battles that 'keepers must take on, would prove a problem for Navas in the Premier League.

De Gea took two years to adjust to the physical demands of English football and United cannot risk any new keeper suffering the same acclimatisation period."

Chelsea in talks with Papy Djilibodji

I know what you're thinking: "All this genuine transfer news is all well and good JJ, but what about Papy Djilibodji?".

I too have pondered what will become of the 26 year old Senegal defender, but according to Sky Italia, Chelsea have abandoned the good ship John Stones and Ezequiel Garay and moved onto the Nantes player.

Charlie Austin to Man Utd?

A twist in the tale for Tony Pulis' planned QPR raid, as some bookmakers have severely shortened the odds on Charlie Austin moving to Manchester United.

The England international has a year left on his contract and QPR are looking for something close to £15million for him - might Wayne Rooney's struggles in front of goal force Van Gaal's hand?

Is Austin good enough for Manchester United? Sure, why not. I seem to recall Alan Smith was good for a little while. Will Austin fit in as a holding midfield player? Only time will tell.

Ryan Christie allowed to begin talks with Celtic

Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Ryan Christie is about to open talks with Celtic over a potential £500,000 transfer.

The club released a statement this morning which says:

“As a result of a further approach from Celtic FC, and following discussions with the management team and the player, the board of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC can confirm that Ryan Christie has been given leave to travel to Glasgow to discuss personal terms.”

Glasgow is about a four hour drive from Inverness so we'll probably hear more about this in the afternoon. He's really good, by the way. At football, not driving. I have no idea how good at driving he is.

Man Utd won't get much change back for Martial

Today's story that Manchester United want Anthony Martial, a 19 year old striker who has scored 11 professional goals, has brought with it a range of consequences, all of which are financial.

L'Equipe reckon the bid would have to be around 70 or 80million euro or include Javier Hernandez, who looks like he's on his way to Bayer Leverkusen. Le Parisien, on the other hand, says that Marcos Rojo has been offered as part of a deal for Martial, who has already been to England to discuss terms on a move to Old Trafford.

I'm calling shenanigans on this one.
