Terry Wogan has been voted the greatest BBC radio presenter of the last 50 years by a panel of experts.
The long-serving Radio 2 host, who died last year, topped a poll carried out by Radio Times. John Peel came second, with Sue MacGregor, Radio 1's first female presenter Annie Nightingale and Alistair Cooke completing the top five. The top 10 features four women.
Wogan, who joined the BBC in 1966, hosted the Radio 2 breakfast show for 28 years, which attracted an average of eight million listeners. It was, at one stage, the most popular radio show in Europe.
Radio Times conducted the poll to celebrate 50 years since the launch of BBC Radio. Broadcasters, critics and other industry figures, including John Humphrys, Jenni Murray and Steve Wright, were asked to name their top 15 BBC broadcasters.
There was no place on the list for long-time Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Chris Moyles or Radio 4's Today presenter Nick Robinson.
