Arsenal failed with a late £12 million offer for long-term target Jonny Evans, with West Brom also resisting interest from Manchester City and Everton.

West Brom snubbed Arsenal's last-ditch "derisory" attempt to sign the Northern Ireland international, who is staying at the Hawthorns despite another month of uncertainty.

Evans, 30, has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave in the summer for £3m if West Brom are relegated to the Championship, but, for now, West Brom are hopeful he can lead the club to Premier League survival.

He missed the defeat at Manchester City on Wednesday night with an injury.

Ayew is back at Swansea

Swansea smashed their transfer record to re-sign Andre Ayew in a deal worth up to £18m.

Ayew returned to the Liberty Stadium from West Ham in a record deal which eclipsed the £15.5m paid out for striker Borja Baston in the summer of 2016.

Ndiaye seals Stoke switch

Stoke have sealed a £15m deal for Galatasaray's Badou Ndiaye, with the midfielder signing a four-and-a-half-year contract. Ndiaye flew to Paris on deadline day to secure his work permit and could make his debut at Bournemouth this weekend.

Karanka shores up midfield

New Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka was so annoyed with the 3-0 home defeat to Preston on Tuesday night that he recruited an entire new midfield. Ben Watson, the Watford player, joined on loan after being withdrawn from the squad to play Stoke - days after admitting it was the biggest game of Watford's season.

Newcastle's Jack Colback and Middlesbrough's Adlene Guedioura also linked up with the Championship club. Hull City defender Michael Dawson signed while there was also a move for Costel Pantilimon, the goalkeeper, from Watford.

Grabban's Villa loan deal

Aston Villa completed the capture of Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban on loan. Villa beat off Championship rivals Cardiff in the race to sign Grabban, with manager Steve Bruce ending his pursuit of a striker, after Leonardo Ulloa opted to join Brighton from Leicester.

Martin is off to Reading

Derby striker Chris Martin joined Reading on loan while Gary Rowett's pursuit of West Brom's James McClean collapsed after they were quoted a mind-boggling £15m.

Davenport joins Burton

Burton Albon manager Nigel Clough swooped for Manchester City's 2016 young player of the year, Jacob Davenport, in another loan deal.
