Liverpool deserve all the plaudits for ending Manchester City’s unbeaten run and there were stand-out performances throughout the team.

But the tone was set by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who was positive, aggressive, creative – and scored the opening goal.

The way he played exposed, once again, the lack of progress he made at Arsenal and what a good move he has made to come to Liverpool. He is fulfilling his undoubted potential.

Wayne Hennessey

The goalkeeping position has been a problem for Crystal Palace all season and they are in the transfer market this month to sign one. But the Welsh international made two vital saves in the crucial win over Burnley, keeping a clean sheet.

Adam Smith

Played at right wing-back with Bournemouth’s formation shift in the win over Arsenal. Pushed on and helped take the game – and win the game – for Eddie Howe’s side.

Craig Dawson

A trademark headed goal from a set-piece from the West Brom defender helped his side to a first win – and a clean sheet – in the Premier League under Alan Pardew.

Joel Matip

In the absence of £75million central defender Virgil Van Dijk, Matip stepped up with a commanding performance in Liverpool’s brilliant 4-3 win over Manchester City. It helped that Sergio Aguero was out-of-sorts but Matip made some important interventions.

Andrew Robertson

The left-back has had to work hard to earn his chance at Liverpool but he produced his best performance to date in the win over Manchester City with his boundless energy. To the delight of Liverpool fans he nullified the threat of Raheem Sterling.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Undoubtedly his best performance since joining Liverpool for Arsenal. Was positive, powerful and create and set the tone for the win over Manchester City with the opening goal.

Mousa Dembele

There is no doubt the Belgium international – when fit – makes a huge difference to the Tottenham Hotspur midfield. He has skill, the ability to beat his marker and skill as well. Everton could not cope with him.

James Ward-Prowse

Two goals from the midfielder were not enough to gain a win for relegation-threatened Southampton away to Watford but they showed again what promise he has. It is still a frustration that he is not a more regular starter.

Heung-Min Son

Son is no longer Tottenham Hotspur’s unsung hero after scoring in five successive Premier League matches. He was relentless against Everton with his speed and clever movement.

Roberto Firmino

A complete centre-forward’s performance from Firmino as he harried defenders, made clever runs and scored a goal that said everything about his strength and skill as he out-muscled John Stones and provided a deft finish.

Marko Arnautovic

The West Ham forward has been played through the middle of late by David Moyes and to great effect. He led the line brilliantly against Huddersfield, scoring and providing assists.
