Dortmund determined to keep Lewandowski

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp says he has not given up hope of persuading star striker Robert Lewandowski to sign a new deal at the club despite strong interest from Manchester United.

The Polish forward is out of contract at Dortmund in the summer of 2014 and is expected to move to Old Trafford at the end of the current season.

But although Klopp admits it is likely Lewandowski will leave, he intends to make a counter offer to the 24-year-old.

And he has not abandoned hope of persuading Lewandowski to renew his deal with the German champions, despite the prospect of the forward linking up with Robin Van Persie at Old Trafford.

"We will offer Robert a good contract but we have to see what the players wants," Klopp said.

"We must respect the decision of the player and, in some cases, wait. Right now there are signs that suggest we may be heading for a divorce but we will see what we can do."
