Brian McDermott dismisses Reading link to Manchester United striker

Reading boss Brian McDermott feels it will be difficult for his side to sign Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on loan.

Widespread reports on Thursday claimed the Royals had approached United over a temporary move for the England international.

The Berkshire side, who are level on points with bottom club QPR, have scored just 23 goals this season and are in need of firepower up front.

However, McDermott is not confident of luring Welbeck to the Madejski stadium this month.

He said: "I can't see Sir Alex Ferguson sending him out to any club."
