Manchester City forward Patrick Roberts will return to Celtic on a season-long loan next week, Sky sources understand.

Roberts, 20, finished an 18-month loan spell at the Scottish champions at the end of last season, having joined Manchester City for £12m in 2015.

The forward, who has made just one Premier League appearance for City, scored nine goals for Celtic last season as Brendan Rodgers' side secured the title without losing a game.

Celtic's hopes of signing Roberts looked to have suffered a blow earlier this week after the winger was included in Manchester City's travelling party for a training camp in Spain.

Nice and Southampton had also been linked with loan bids for the former Fulham player.

Despite being involved in Pep Guardiola's pre-season squad throughout the summer, it is understood Roberts will once again return to Parkhead.
