Chris Hughton admitted it has been a tough start for his Brighton side in the Premier League

Chris Hughton admits his Brighton side will have to improve after they fell to a second successive Premier League defeat.

Goals from Shinji Okazaki and Harry Maguire earned Leicester a 2-0 win against the Seagulls, who are yet to score in their first season of Premier League football.

Brighton rarely called Kasper Schmeichel into action on Saturday afternoon, as they recorded just two shots on target despite enjoying 55% of possession.

When asked if playing in the Premier League has been a rude awakening for Brighton's new recruits, Hughton said his players must adapt to life in the top tier.

"It's not difficult to integrate them into the group, because it's normal. You want to bring in players to improve what you've got," Hughton said.

"What we're having to do is play our football in the best league, and players have to adapt to it, step up to the mark and show the quality which was the reason why we brought them in.

"It has been a tough start for us and we will need to be better."

Brighton conceded after 52 seconds at the King Power, with Okazaki tapping in from close range following Riyad Mahrez's spilled effort.

Hughton admitted his disappointment at conceding so early, while his Brighton side were then left with a mountain to climb when Maguire doubled Leicester's lead from a corner after the break.

"The last thing that you need is to be going away against the quality that they've got and going one goal down so early in the game," Hughton added.

"That was a huge disappointment, but we stuck in there and at 1-0 you still have an opportunity. But when you concede from a set-play at the time that we did, then it's very difficult to win a football match.

"We have to look at the positives from the game. The only negative was that we didn't keep the ball well enough.

"That showed the difference in where Leicester have been and where we are. At pivotal moments of the game they kept it better than us."
