Paul Clement says Swansea are working hard in the transfer market as they look to cope with the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton.

Sigurdsson joined the Toffees in a club-record £45m transfer earlier this month after weeks of speculation and Clement admits he in desperate need of reinforcements after watching his side suffer a heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

"We knew the moment Gylfi went that we would need to strengthen," Clement told Swansea's official website.

"When you haven't got Gylfi, you haven't got Fernando Llorente and you haven't got Ki Sung-Yueng, who did well for us at the end of last season, then of course we are weaker.

"We have still got a good squad, but absolutely we need more quality players to come in so we have a chance of being competitive this season."

Swans defender Federico Fernandez also acknowledged the need for fresh faces at the Liberty Stadium after losing Sigurdsson.

"Gylfi was a top player for us," he said. "Of course you are going to miss a player who scored nine goals and had 13 assists last season because they are high numbers.

"We need to do better, create more chances and play more football."
