West Ham have failed with a £15m offer for Stoke's Marko Arnautovic, according to Sky sources.

Arnautovic has handed in a transfer request at Stoke four years after arriving in a £2m transfer from Werder Bremen - and just 12 months after signing a new four-year contract.

West Ham are expected to return with an improved offer, but Stoke are not looking to sell the Austria forward, who is currently on tour in Switzerland with the rest of the City squad.

The Hammers have signed Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer but are yet to add to their forward options despite holding talks over several players.

Enquiries have been made about Javier Hernandez, Kelechi Iheanacho, Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Cologne's Anthony Modeste, according to Sky sources.
