Arsene Wenger on the strain he's been under this season, his reasons for switching to a back three - and the qualities of Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits the pressure has been "intense" this season, but he is trying to make the "right decisions".

The Gunners face a battle to finish in the top four in the Premier League as they are seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City ahead of their home match with Leicester tonight.

And Wenger's position has been under scrutiny for most of the campaign, with some fans protesting for him to leave at the end of the season.

Wenger is yet to announce if he will sign a new deal to keep him at the club, but has acknowledged this season has been tough.

"The pressure has been very intense," he said. "Pressure comes from the team not delivering results I expected, then it's the pressure from the environment, and most of the times in our careers the two combine together and make it very intense.

"It's down to you to analyse the situation at a distance and try to make the right decisions. Sometimes you face human beings who have to act together and have to find a way to rebuild the confidence, energy and dynamic. Sometimes that is very difficult."

Some of the pressure on Wenger has been relieved by wins over Middlesbrough in the league and then Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Arsene Wenger reflects on Arsenal's top-four chances

Wenger opted to play three at the back in both games, and says he made the change because the Gunners were "leaking too many goals".

"We lost conceded three at Liverpool, at West Brom and Crystal Palace. You cannot be Arsenal and concede three goals everywhere," he said.

"That is basically the main reason for doing that, not the opponent."

Asked about his passionate celebrations after the win over City, Wenger said: "I am just happy. I love to win.

"When you are favourite it's a relief, when it's 50-50 against an opponent of similar quality it's the joy to have done something special, so the joy is a bit more sudden, more intense, and then straight away the job takes over and you shake hands with the manager, but it's that fraction of a second where you just let it go.

"I am proud of the FA Cup because it's a difficult achievement and it was a big game where we were not favourites. We turned up with desire, hunger, and an energy level you want in these kind of games."

While Arsenal have won their last two matches, Wednesday's opponents Leicester have not won in their last four in all competitions.

Leicester manager Criag Shakespeare has confirmed Wes Morgan and Islam Slimani will both miss Wednesday's game with Arsenal

But their form has improved since the appointment of Craig Shakespeare, who has helped them move six points clear of the relegation zone.

"With Shakespeare they are back in a comfortable position in the league and had an outstanding season in the Champions League," said Wenger.

"For the first experience to reach the quarter-finals is remarkable. We also forget to talk about [Claudio] Ranieri but he did exceptionally well for the club."
