Huddersfield v Manchester United preview: Marcus Rashford fit for United

Marcus Rashford will be fit for Manchester United as they travel to Huddersfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 19-year-old limped off in the Champions League win at Benfica on Wednesday with a knee issue, but Jose Mourinho has confirmed the forward will be available on Saturday.

Man Utd will be looking to gain ground on Manchester City - who currently sit three points ahead of them at the top of the table - after they drew 0-0 with Liverpool last weekend.

However, Huddersfield have been going well in their maiden Premier League season, currently 12th with nine points, but have not won in their last six matches.

Although Rashford will be available, United midfielders Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba all remain out through injury, as does Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Defenders Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly are also sidelined, while Phil Jones is pushing for a return.

Huddersfield striker Steve Mounie will return to the squad having missed the last four league game and could go straight into David Wagner's starting line-up.

Midfielder Philip Billing is waiting to learn whether he requires surgery on the ankle he twisted in last week's defeat at Swansea and could be out for 12 weeks. Collin Quaner, Kasey Palmer and Michael Hefele are still out.

Opta stats

This will be the first meeting between these sides since the top-flight campaign of 1971-72, with Manchester United winning both games that season.

Indeed, the Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 10 league games against Huddersfield (W7 D3 L0), since a 2-3 away defeat in March 1952.

Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Before 2017-18, two of the last five clubs in their debut Premier League season have beaten Manchester United at home - Burnley in 2009-10 and Bournemouth in 2015-16.

The Red Devils have kept seven clean sheets in their first eight Premier League games this season - no side in top-flight history has ever kept eight clean sheets in their first nine games of a season. The only other side to keep seven in their first eight were Mourinho's Chelsea side in 2004-05.

Huddersfield have failed to score in four consecutive games in all competitions for the first time since August 2004 - they last went five matches without scoring back in October 2002.

Swansea 2-0 Huddersfield

Since Mourinho took charge of Man Utd, the Red Devils have been outrun in 40 of their 46 Premier League matches, more than any other team. However, only Chelsea (106), Spurs (103) and Man City (100) have actually won more points than Man Utd in this period (89 - level with Liverpool).

Paul Merson's prediction

I just don't see Huddersfield scoring, they don't look like scoring goals at the moment. They look a bit out of their depth.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is recovering well, but thinks that the striker needs another week or so

They started well, but that squeezing game is good against sides in the division they were in last season, but in this division teams can keep the ball a lot better. Huddersfield aren't getting the ball back as quickly as they did in the Championship.

In the Premier League teams will just go ping, ping, ping around them, like Tottenham did the other week. I can't see anything but a Manchester United win.
