Burnley v Stoke preview: Ben Mee could make Clarets return

Burnley could welcome back Ben Mee when they host Stoke in the Premier League on Tuesday.

The defender missed Saturday's 1-0 win over Watford after having stitches in a cut just above the knee, and Sean Dyche says a late decision will be made on whether he plays against Stoke.

A victory for Burnley would see them move up from seventh to fourth in the Premier League, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham not in action until Wednesday.

Dyche says he is pleased with the way the goals are being shared around, with Saturday's match-winner Scott Arfield one of eight players to score for the Clarets in the league this season.

"There's an obvious case for strikers being strikers and we want them to score, of course, but behind that it's a team event," said the Burnley boss. "It's not just about relying on anyone. It's relying on everyone, in fact."

While Burnley have enjoyed a positive start to the season, Stoke have only won one of their last six games and were beaten 5-1 at Tottenham on Saturday.

"We are all of the view that we want to do something about the performance on Saturday and hope to do that on Tuesday," said manager Mark Hughes.

While Mee could be back for Burnley, Dyche says a return for fellow defender Matt Lowton is "improbable". Lowton has missed the last three games with a knee problem.

Stoke have no new injury concerns but Glen Johnson is out with a knee injury, Jese is still in Spain for family reasons and defender Bruno Martins Indi (groin) is also absent.

The Potters were thumped 5-1 by Tottenham on Saturday and Hughes could shuffle his pack, with Peter Crouch, Geoff Cameron and Charlie Adam likely to come into consideration for a starting berth.

    Highlights: Burnley 1-0 Watford

Burnley have now won 34 games in Premier League, with 25 of those being won by a single goal margin (74 per cent).

Sean Dyche's side have collected 28 points from their 16 Premier League games this season - it took them seven games more (23 matches) to reach this tally in 2016/17.

Stoke City have won just 41 points from their last 40 Premier League matches under Mark Hughes (W10 D11 L19).

    Merson's prediction

Stoke were really poor against Tottenham. Burnley are flying at the moment, and on the back of their home win at the weekend, they will win again. The owners at Stoke are quite patient, so they will give Mark Hughes time to turn things around. This is a hard game for Stoke and shows how ruthless the Premier League is.

Paul predicts: 2-0 (8/1 with Sky Bet)

    Betting

Burnley are Sky Bet's 6/5 favourites with Stoke priced at 5/2 while the draw is a 21/10 chance. Chris Wood heads the goalscorer betting and is enhanced from 7/2 go 9/2 to net first in Sky Bet's Price Boosts, while Peter Crouch is considered the visitors' main threat at 13/2 to break the deadlock. The Clarets are included in this Tuesday's Crowd Boosted acca, with the more backers meaning bigger odds.
