Southampton are livid with Liverpool again

If Southampton are to be believed, Liverpool may have jumped the gun a bit.

On Monday, rumors and reports that Liverpool were about to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton started to circulate, spurred on by reported comments from the defender that he wants to sign with the Anfield club. Coming on the heels of weeks of rumors and speculations that Van Dijk would head to Liverpool, those reports made sense.

Southampton, however, are far from happy about those reports. They're so unhappy, in fact, that they've reported Liverpool to the Premier League for making an illegal and unauthorized approach to Van Dijk without working through Southampton. They're standing on the ground of having a five-year contract with the defender and claiming that Liverpool have yet to contact them officially, making reports about Van Dijk's signing being imminent premature at best.

Of course, Southampton have other issues to consider, with manager Claude Puel seemingly on the verge of leaving after a fallout with the board. If they do change managers this summer, the rumored £60 million Liverpool are willing to pay for Van Dijk will almost certainly come in handy as they look to rebuild their team yet again.
