Liverpool can take a big step towards a top four finish on Sunday, when they play host to mid-table Southampton at Anfield. Jürgen Klopp's side headed into the weekend with a four-point buffer over fifth-placed Manchester United, albeit having played an extra game. They certainly can’t ease up yet, and they’ll be hoping to avoid a slip at all costs.
Now's probably a good time to be playing Southampton, with murmurs growing louder that all is not well at St. Mary's. Claude Puel's side have picked up only one point from their last three matches, and have slumped to 10th in the table. They’re still a very capable side, and Liverpool should avoid underestimating them, though the Merseysiders are certainly big favorites heading into this one.
Liverpool will still be without Danny Ings, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mané, though are hoping to have Philippe Coutinho back after he sustained a dead leg in their win over Watford on Monday. Southampton aren't so lucky: Alex McCarthy, Virgil van Dijk, Matt Targett and Charlie Austin are still all on the sidelines with injury problems; Sofiane Boufal, Lloyd Isgrove, Jake Hesketh and Jérémy Pied all face late fitness tests.
