Liverpool are not in great form right now.
After the disappointing 1-1 draw against Burnley, they crashed out of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 defeat at Leicester.
And yet, there are still plenty of Liverpool fans who LOVE Jurgen Klopp.
It's easy to see why. The German coach is charismatic, energetic and dynamic. He has got Liverpool playing an exciting brand football. He has brought hope to the Anfield masses. He has shown a willingness to embrace the history and the culture of their club.
Unfortunately, he has also seen Liverpool's results WORSEN since he took charge.
Yes, it's true. Brendan Rodgers' results at Liverpool were BETTER than Klopp's.
Rodgers was given the boot by the Anfield giants in October 2015, with Klopp coming in to replace him.
Despite his achievement in coming closer to winning a Premier League title than any other Liverpool manager - 2013/14, Luis Suarez, the Gerrard slip and all that - there are not many Liverpool fans who would choose Rodgers over Klopp right now.
And yet, the stats prove that the current Celtic boss had a better record with Liverpool than his successor.
Klopp has now taken charge of 73 Premier League games as manager of The Reds. Just check out the difference between his numbers… and those of Rodgers after HIS first 73 matches:
Wins after 73 games
Klopp
37
Rodgers
41
Goals scored after 73 games
Klopp
142
Rodgers
167
Points after 73 games
Klopp
132
Rodgers
141
Win percentage after 73 games
Klopp
50.7 %
Rodgers
56.2 %
No doubt there will be plenty of Klopp apologists out there claiming that these numbers are skewed, because we have only taken the stats from Premier League matches.
However…
Klopp has now been at the helm for 106 Liverpool matches in all competitions.
And once again, if you look at Rodgers' stats from HIS first 106 Liverpool matches, his record trumps Klopp's:
More wins.
More goals.
Better win percentage.
We can only imagine how Brendan might react once he sees all these numbers…
