Valencia have completed the £12m signing of Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin.

The Spanish giants have announced the 26-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with a massive €80m (£71m) release clause.

The French midfielder, last played for the Arsenal on December 28 in the 3-2 win at Crystal Palace and Los Che released the following statement:

"Valencia CF has reached an agreement with Arsenal Football Club on Thursday for the transfer of Francis Coquelin, who becomes a new black and white player until June 30, 2022, with a clause of cancellation of 80 million euros.

"The footballer will attend the media as of 17.15 h. in the Media Center of the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna."

Wenger had confirmed after the 0-0 draw with Chelsea: "He goes to Valencia, he didn’t get enough games. I let him go."

"The best way to replace Coquelin is to get Aaron Ramsey Mesut Ozil back, that will help. After that we see.

“We have seen again that Maitland-Niles had an outstanding performance. He is a defensive midfielder, basically.

"What he is doing at the moment will help him develop as a player because he plays in a different position but at some stage I will play him in at defensive midfield.

“At the moment we have Monreal and Kolasinac injured and they will come back. So that is as well as opening for him in midfield.”
