Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood wants to open talks to make the loan move of Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley permanent.

Cleverley, 25, has impressed for Villa during a season-long loan and Sherwood doesn’t want to lose him amid rumours of rival interest from Everton.

He said: “I want the club to talk to his representatives and I want him to stay at Villa.

“He can score goals and I believe that he can score 10 goals next season.”

There is ominous news for Villa ahead of this weekend's FA Cup final - Liverpool are to step up their longstanding interest in striker Christian Benteke.
