Thomas Lemar left the door open for a future move to the Premier League after failed efforts from Liverpool and Arsenal on deadline day.

The Monaco star showed precisely why cashed up clubs are so interested, scoring twice for France in their 4-0 thrashing of Holland in World Cup qualifying on Thursday night.

The Gunners had offered £90 million for Lemar earlier in the day, only to bail when time appeared to have beaten them.

Arsenal also ended Alexis Sanchez's hopes of moving to Manchester City.

After his starring performance at Paris's Parc des Princes, Lemar was cryptic when asked about a potential move - offering encouragement to Liverpool and Arsenal fans.

"You will soon see for yourself, but for the moment I am a Monégasque and everything is going very well," he said on TF1.

Liverpool were looking into the possibility of signing Lemar from the Ligue 1 champions before Arsenal swooped with a massive £90million offer.

Lemar was open to working with Jurgen Klopp and to helping the Reds in the Champions League, which Arsenal couldn't offer this season.

Having lost Kylian Mbappe to PSG, initially on loan, and other stars this summer, Monaco were unwilling to let another of their young stars go.

For now, that is.

Arsene Wenger was at the game in Paris as he was commentating on the match for French TV.
