Manchester United are reportedly lining up a move for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The Red Devils are closing in on Los Blancos striker Alvaro Morata. Now Diario Madridista claim United are keen on signing Kovacic as well.

Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to bring the Croatian to Old Trafford when he was just 17, but United chiefs were put off by his £10million price tag.

However, Jose Mourinho is apparently interested in snapping up the Austrian-born 23-year-old.

Kovacic started his career at Dinamo Zagreb before moving to Inter Milan in 2013. He spent two seasons in Italy then headed for the Bernabeu.

Wayne Rooney has told Manchester United that he will not leave this summer with a £30m pay off.

Old Trafford bosses have offered the record goalscorer a £10m deal to give him a 'golden goodbye', according to the Sun.

But Rooney, who is going into the final year of his United contract, wants triple.

The England striker could still trigger a 12-month extension of his £300,000-a-week contract.

Rooney, who is currently on holiday, has been targeted by Stoke, West Ham, Everton and China - with the ace no longer in Jose Mourinho's plans.

How Mourinho's tinkering cost United top four spot

The figures didn’t add up for Manchester United in the Premier League last season – and Jose Mourinho’s number might be up if he continues to tinker with his side.

Chelsea used 24 players as they marched to top-flight glory last season.

That’s one more than the 23 employed by Claudio Ranieri during Leicester City’s fairy-tale title charge in 2015/16.

Mourinho, in contrast, used 31 players in the Premier League as his new side spluttered to a disappointing sixth-place finish – a distant 24 points behind Chelsea.

It’s not so much the number of players used that sets the Londoners apart, though.

United confirm quartet's exit

Manchester United have confirmed the exit of four players as Jose Mourinho reshapes his squad.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Josh Harrop, Kayne Diedrick-Roberts and Faustin Makela have left Old Trafford after their deals came to and on June 30, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The crocked Swedish striker took to social media to say farewell to his United supporters.

Ibrahimovic wrote: "I came. I said. I conquered." The former Paris Saint-Germain striker accompanied the caption with a picture of him celebrating his FA Cup winner at Blackburn in February. The post was liked by Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.
