Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly called Real Madrid to tell them he won't be making an approach for Gareth Bale.

The Red Devils are being linked with the Welshman again, perhaps for next summer, with the former Spurs flier suffering another injury-prone season.

But Mourinho is wary of Bale's growing fitness problems and has opted not to make a move, according to Spanish outlet Diario Gol.

The Portuguese has apparently told Los Blancos president Florentino Perez, who he worked under at the Bernabeu, that he's not interested.

That opens the door for a potential return to north London for Bale, with Tottenham rumoured to be monitoring his situation.

Real retain an interest in Harry Kane who has continued his fine record in front of goal this season, and he impressed in Spurs' 1-1 draw in the Spanish capital in the Champions League.

Although Kane has intimated he is happy to stay at Tottenham, should Real lure him away, a deal which sees Bale move in the other direction could be in the pipeline.

Bale missed 23 games in 2016-17 through injury and is currently out with a calf problem.
