Liverpool are leading the race to sign highly-rated Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who say the Reds are at the front of the queue for the 20-year-old who has been called into the Wales senior squad by Chris Coleman.

Brooks represented England during the summer at the Toulon Tournament, picking up player of the competition as he helped the Young Lions to glory.

He has had an impressive start to the campaign in South Yorkshire and starred as the Blades beat city rivals Wednesday last month.

Jamie Carragher fears Liverpool fans may never see the best of Daniel Sturridge again.

The England striker was given a rare start at Newcastle on Sunday but turned in a lacklustre performance.

Sturridge wasted a golden chance to put Liverpool back in front at St James' Park but was denied by Rob Elliot before being replaced by Roberto Firmino.

It was a far cry from the type of performance we became used to from Sturridge back in 2013-14 as Liverpool almost won the Premier League title.

And Carragher fears the striker may never get back to that level after years of injury woes.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's transfer value has more than doubled over the past three months, according to a study from the CIES Football Observatory.

The England midfielder joined Liverpool from Arsenal at the end of the summer transfer window in a £35million move and is yet to start a match for the Reds in which they have won.

Swiss football research group CIES specialise in the scientific estimation of player's transfer value and their latest release comes after a record breaking summer of transfer action across Europe.

They had the former Arsenal man valued at €27million on July 1, but have now re-assessed that to €58.7million, despite a rough start to life at Anfield.
