The finish line is in sight for Liverpool after spending months rebuffing attempts from Barcelona to land Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool have turned down three bids from Barca throughout the course of the summer, with bids of £72million, £90million and £114million all rejected.

The La Liga giants, whose third bid came in on Friday August 18, imposed a laughable deadline on their most recent offer which went unanswered by the Reds, report the Liverpool Echo.

This was after seeing Coutinho hand in a transfer request via email on the eve of the Premier League season on August 11.

The Reds' No.10 is keen to move to Barcelona, but Liverpool have remained steadfast in their refusal to sanction a deal.

And while the situation will resolve itself one way or another this week, Thursday's 11pm transfer deadline could not be the end of this particular transfer saga.

The matter is seen as closed by Anfield officials - they have absolutely no intention off selling the Brazil international - but La Liga's transfer deadline does not coincide with the Premier League's.

Clubs in Spain are permitted to continue their transfer activity until midnight on Friday September 1, meaning Barca can still theoretically add to their ranks.

So while Liverpool will not be allowed to wheel and deal past 11pm on Thursday evening, Barcelona have a further 25 hours to add to a squad that lost Neymar to a world-record £198m deal to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this window.

The Reds will continue to hold firm from Barcelona and their incessant pursuit of Coutinho, but Thursday's transfer deadline might not be end of the speculation for this window.
