Chelsea fear Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is getting cold feet on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Despite agreeing a £40million deal with Arsenal on Monday, the champions have not got it over the line yet and Oxlade-Chamberlain was still with England at St George’s Park at the time of writing on Tuesday night having not asked to leave.

Chelsea are desperate to get the transfer done — missing out would be a huge blow for Antonio Conte — but Liverpool remain in the hunt for the England international.

Oxlade-Chamberlain would be seen as a right-wing back at the Blues but may get the chance to play midfield at Anfield — which is what he wants.

Liverpool have yet to table a formal bid let alone agree a fee, as the Blues have, but it is believed Arsenal could be tempted to sell to the Anfield giants despite bad blood between the clubs dating back to the Gunners' botched move for Luis Suarez four years ago.

Arsenal still believe Oxlade-Chamberlain is likely to go to Stamford Bridge but Chelsea sources admit the deal still needs some work and may go to the wire if they can get it done.

Liverpool believe Oxlade-Chamberlain could be their most likely option in the market now, as French champions Monaco do not want to sell Thomas Lemar.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain cannot agree a deal to join Chelsea, he could yet stay at Arsenal for the final year of his contract.
