Barcelona could turn to Monaco winger Thomas Lemar as a Plan B if they cannot secure Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

Arsenal missed out on the Frenchman on Thursday after having a £90 million bid accepted, with Lemar turning them down because he wanted to stay at a club in the Champions League, while Liverpool were also interested.

However now Barcelona know Lemar’s price, they are considering swooping for him to reinforce their midfield, should Liverpool continue to deny them prime target Coutinho, whom they have bid 150 million euros for.

Lemar struck twice for France in a spectacular 4-0 demolition of Holland in a World Cup qualifier at Parc des Princes on Thursday night.

"You will soon see for yourself, but for the moment I am a Monegasque and everything is going very well," Lemar told TF1 after the game.

Barcelona have been following Lemar for months but were not anticipating moving for him this summer.

However with Neymar’s shock departure to Paris Saint-Germain, the Catalan giants’ summer took on a different complexion.

They signed Ousmane Dembele for a club record 147 million euros to replace the Brazilian and have cash left over to sign one more creative player.

Barcelona have ruled out a move for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, who was linked, preferring to put all their effort into signing Coutinho.

Should he not arrive, Lemar would make a somewhat improvised signing but he is a player who has the quality and skill-set to fit in at Camp Nou.
