Alexis Sanchez took his place at Chile training after reportedly asking to be excused for 24 hours amid raging transfer speculation.

The Arsenal forward is said to have requested 24 hours away from his national team to address a massive new offer from Manchester City .

The Blues offered Raheem Sterling plus cash for the unhappy superstar in an audacious move on Tuesday morning.

Sanchez then requested for permission to take a day off despite Chile's crunch World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Thursday night, when the summer transfer window shuts, TV13 claim.

It is unclear whether Chile boss Juan Antonio Pizzi is willing to let his star asset take time away from the squad, but he was just one of the team Tuesday.

Man City are apparently prepared send their medical staff to Chile in the event of Pizzi refusing to let Sanchez go in order to carry out a medical.

And it appears they'll have to do just that with Sanchez joining the likes of Arturo Vidal for their key qualifier.

Pep Guardiola is so keen to get the deal over the line before 11pm Thursday that he is willing to send club medics to South America.

Arsenal continue to insist Sanchez is not for sale, even with just one year left on his contract, but Mirror Sport understands the clubs have been in direct contact.

The Gunners may consider a massive cash deal for Sanchez with a figure around £70m potentially tempting, but City surprised many with the offer involving England winger Sterling.

Arsene Wenger is under intense pressure following Sunday's thrashing by Liverpool at Anfield.

Sanchez's body language spoke volumes for their performance and pictures emerged today of him in deep discussion with Wenger before the weekend's match.

The public meeting will cause more concern with an already restless fan base with the game plan seemingly put to one side.

Sanchez has so far refused to sign a new deal and after a poor display against Leicester, despite victory, and a shock loss to Stoke, Wenger decided to rush him back for the clash at Anfield.

His focus for the time being is on Chile, who sit in fourth in the CONMEBOL table, the last of the automatic World Cup qualification places.

Argentina are just one point behind them after 14 matches ahead of their massive clash with Uruguay in Montevideo.
