Alvaro Morata's proposed move to Manchester United will not damage his chances of becoming Spain's main man, according to ex-boss Vicente del Bosque.

Morata has decided to leave Real Madrid because he wants to boost his chances of firing his country to the 2018 World Cup, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The opportunity to team up with Jose Mourinho, who handed the 24-year-old his first-team debut at the Bernabeu back in 2010, has also swung the deal in United's favour.

Although he faces stiff competition from Diego Costa, Del Bosque feels Morata's chances of leading the line for Spain will not be hampered by leaving Madrid.

"What is good for him is mainly that he plays but I think he is doing very well at Real Madrid," Del Bosque told AS.

"It is a shame if he leaves, but I have always said that it is an enrichment factor for our football that our players have been able to go abroad and have been able to play. It will not be a problem for the Spanish team.

"He has demonstrated his qualities. He is a player with very good physical and technical attributes, but the process of maturation of players is not always the same.

"Many times risks are taken, especially for the amounts of money that are being discussed."

The boyhood Madrid fan only rejoined Los Blancos on a five-year deal last summer, but he made just 19 starts as Zinedine Zidane's side swept the boards.

Fresh from his first 20-goal season, Morata now looks set to become the most expensive Spanish footballer of all-time - six years after Fernando Torres' £50m move to Chelsea.
