Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made his first Manchester United appearance of the season as he completed his comeback from injury by coming on as a second-half substitute against Newcastle in the 77th minute.

The Swede was sent on with United 4-1 up to cap a remarkable seven months of rehabilitation after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in a Europa League match against Anderlecht in April.

But despite his age, 36 years old, he has made a remarkable recovery in seven months, now sporting a new No.10 shirt with Romelu Lukaku taking the No.9 he wore last season.

The 36-year-old penned a new one-year deal with the club in the summer after revealing that he was determined not to let the injury end his glittering career.

"The first thing I said to myself was that giving up was not an alternative," said Ibrahimovic.

"I have come this far and I will finish on my terms, not anyone else's.

"I will stop when I want, in the way that I want.

"Since then I've been in rehab training and I'm determined to return better and stronger than before.

"That is my goal and it will happen. There are no other options.

"I was not going to let this injury stop me. The will to get better, wanting to do more, never giving up. Daring to take it to new levels where there are no limits."

And it would appear that Zlatan has now done exactly what he set out to do.
