Manchester United made it two wins from two on their US tour, winning 2-1 against Real Salt Lake in Utah.

On the back of winning against LA Galaxy at the weekend, the Red Devils were put under far more pressure at Rio Tinto Stadium.

But, after falling behind to Luis Silva's goal midway through the first period, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku both found the net before the break to put Jose Mourinho's men in front.

As at the weekend, Mourinho changed his entire XI at the break, but saw Juan Mata last just 15 minutes before hobbling off, while Antonio Valencia was shown a straight red card as United finished the game with 10 men.

But who of the 24 players used by United came out of the night as winners? And who endured evenings they won't want to remember?

Here are the winners and losers from the clash in Utah:

Winner: Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Given another opportunity down the right side, the Dutchman again impressed.

A mountain of a man, it was a physical mismatch against the diminutive Joao Plata, a creative No.10 playing from the left for RSL.

Time and again, Plata allowed Fosu-Mensah to dart past him down the right, creating overloads and offering threat. He also did well defensively against the tricky Plata, not being found wanting positionally.

Antonio Valencia has been the No.1 right-back and impressed last term. Fosu-Mensah looks ready to challenge for that spot this year.

Loser: Antonio Valencia

The Ecuadorian took the captain’s armband at half-time. What he didn’t show in the second half as things got a little bit tetchy however was anything like the necessary level of leadership.

After Juan Mata left the field injured, hobbling off after his achilles had come into contact with Saucedo’s boot, Valencia took it upon himself to gain some retribution.

As such, he whacked in a heavy challenge from behind on Saucedo. It was petulant, aggressive, needless.

Certainly, regardless of how Mourinho elects to spin it publicly, he’ll be seething in private. Backing up teammates is one thing, being an absolute idiot is another.

Winner: Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The Armenian came up trumps for Mourinho down the stretch last term and has started pre-season where he left off.

He took time to adapt to life at Old Trafford, but now the 28-year-old looks ready to be a major player in the Premier League.

Having scored just four times in the league during his debut campaign in England, he was clinical with his only chance of the game here - firing home from 20 yards - before also teeing up Lukaku for his first United goal.

Looks good for double figures in the Premier League next term.

Loser: Scott McTominay

A difficult evening (

The young midfielder was offered the chance to stake his claim alongside Michael Carrick in midfield from the outset.

But the Lancaster-born 20-year-old failed to grasp his opportunity, as the game largely bypassed him.

Too often he left Carrick alone, with three RSL attacking midfielders running into acres of space early doors, going at the heart of the United defence.

If handed a further opportunity against Manchester City later this week, he’ll know he’ll need to play with more authority.

Winner: Jesse Lingard

The England international’s chances of getting regular action when the big games roll around is under considerable threat with the continued pursuit of Ivan Perisic, the Inter Milan winger.

In both tour games Lingard has started in a left-sided position - that favoured by the Croatian. And while it may not be Lingard’s natural position, he has done very well.

Here again he put in a busy 45 minutes, where he was arguably United’s brightest player.

He made one goal-saving challenge, sticking to his man when many an attack-minded player may have been caught ball watching.

And it was he who provided the bit of attacking spark and was at the heart of the move from which United levelled the scores, driving at the RSL defence before feeding Mkhitaryan.

Be assured, he won’t give up his place without a fight.

Loser: Phil Jones

The England defender has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford in the last 12 months and with the signing of £30million Victor Lindelof, his position is more precarious than ever before.

Jones started alongside the Swede here but a player once mentioned as a future captain looks increasingly set to be cast aside - and this performance was a perfect demonstration of why.

Jones was culpable for the RSL opener, slow on the term, caught out of position, not strong enough, and endured a very poor 45 minutes.
