Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Alexandre Lacazette, describing Arsenal's big summer signing as a 'real buy'.

The Gunners recruited the striker from Lyon for a club record £52million, and it didn't take long for the 26-year-old to make an impression.

The striker scored with his second touch against Leicester on his Premier League debut last week.

Lacazette scored 28 goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances last season, and, speaking on BT Sport, Gerrard believes Arsene Wenger has done well to bring in the forward.

"They've added Lacazette and he looks a real buy, for me," said the ex-England captain. "They spent a lot of money on him but I've watched him a bit this season and he's started with a bang.

"His movement in the box is excellent and he only needs one chance to score a goal."

In terms of mounting a title challenge, Gerrard believes Arsenal's only weakness lies in defence.

"Arsenal's problems aren't going forward," added the BT Sport pundit. "They've still got Sanchez to add, Welbeck's back fit, Ramsey's available now to go in from the start, so we always know Arsenal are going to create chances.

"In the final third they're probably the best team in the Premier League in terms of creating and scoring goals.

"The test for Arsenal, as far as the campaign is concerned, is can they defend well enough to stay in the title race."
