Arsene Wenger is clearly feeling the strain after a difficult start to the season and now appears desperate to persuade Alexis Sanchez to remain at Arsenal.

Ahead of the pivotal clash with Liverpool on Sunday, the Gunners chief was snapped alongside the Chilean in deep conversation just hours before kick-off.

The public meeting will cause more concern with an already restless fan base with the game plan seemingly put to one side.

Sanchez has so far refused to sign a new deal and after a poor display against Leicester, despite victory, and a shock loss to Stoke, Wenger decided to rush him back for the clash at Anfield.

Despite repeatedly claiming he is not for sale, Wenger may relinquish Sanchez this week after Manchester City made a remarkable player-plus-cash offer.

Raheem Sterling could act as a make weight to convince Arsenal to sell before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Wenger's stance may have shifted after two straight defeats and signs that, even with Sanchez, a top four place or a title push may prove beyond this group.
