Alongside Philippe Coutinho and Neymar, Alexis Sanchez has been one of the most talked about names this summer.

The Chilean has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal ever since the start of last season, and a fifth-place finish only exacerbated things.

Sanchez was away from north London for much of the summer, competing for Chile in World Cup qualifiers first and then in the Confederations Cup. The forward helped his country reach the final where they suffered a 1-0 loss to Germany.

Returning to the squad on Sunday, the 28-year-old was part of a dismal Gunners side who suffered a thumping 4-0 loss to Liverpool.

Since then, Arsenal have rejected a £50m offer from Manchester City. Unwavered, the Blues have gone back in with a second bid of £60m. With little time of the window left, a move will need to happen quick.

Here's everything we know on the Sanchez transfer saga so far...

THE FACTS

For one reason or another, Sanchez hasn't signed a new deal with Arsenal and his current contract is up at the end of the season.

Arsenal have two options, either sell the Chilean for as much money as possible or make him see out the final year with the hope he changes his mind.

Wenger has stated all along that the 28-year-old isn't for sale - but his resolve appears to be weakening.

The risk of keeping a player who is affected by big transfer rumours could be detrimental to the club.

But this is the last opportunity for Arsenal to get some serious money for Sanchez. A £60m offer could well sway the Gunners chiefs.

Arsenal have done well to price most clubs out of a move for Sanchez, but City are willing to go where Bayern Munich were not.

Having already had a bid of £50m turned down, the Citizens have gone back with a £60m offer.

It is thought Wenger and co will hold out for £70m. If Guardiola is desperate to reunite with Sanchez then they may view it as a price worth paying.

Sanchez has remained quiet and continues to train and play

Other than his occasional on-pitch strop, Sanchez has remained quiet throughout the saga.

There's been no transfer request, no social media outbursts and no behind the scenes chats with other clubs.

If he stays he doesn't get booed, if he goes he's earned the fans' respect.

THE RUMOURS

Sanchez 'drops hint'

"Stays" (

Social media can be a cruel, cruel platform.

An image on the futbol_akademi page shows the Chilean's face superimposed on top of Neymar's in a picture Gerard Pique posted online.

The original, now infamous photo, uploaded by the Barcelona centre-back, was captioned "Se queda," which translates as "stays," in reference to speculation surrounding Neymar.

Sanchez liked the photo. What does it mean? Probably nothing.

Raheem Sterling part of the deal?

When City's interest first peaked this week it was thought Raheem Sterling could be used as part of the deal.

However, it appears now as though Guardiola has no intention of letting the 22-year-old go.

If Arsenal were to pursue this route they could very well force City's hand.

Julian Draxler lined up as a replacement

Despite joining PSG in January, Julian Draxler has been deemed surplus to requirements already. Neymar's arrival certainly hasn't helped the German.

Rumours are circulating that Arsenal are interested in the winger and that, should they be successful in capturing the 23-year-old, it could open the exit door for Sanchez.

Chile duty may prevent deal

International duty could have come at just the right time for Arsenal.

The logistical issues of carrying out a deal and a medical may prove too much for City. But when there's money there's a way.
