Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs and his estranged wife Stacey have settled a High Court fight over money, lawyers say.

Judges have overseen hearings in the Family Division of the High Court in London during recent months.

But lawyers representing the pair announced on Thursday that an agreement had been reached.

"Ryan and Stacey Giggs are pleased to say that... they have managed to reach a financial settlement in their divorce," said lawyers in a statement.

"This concludes the divorce proceedings and they will not be making any further comment.

"The terms of the settlement are confidential, but both wished to express their sincere thanks to their respective legal teams.

"They... are pleased to leave this chapter of their lives as firm friends."

In August a family court judge had signalled the end of the couple's marriage.

Giggs and Stacey Cooke married in September 2007 and have two children.

The footballer retired as a player in the summer of 2014 having made a record 963 appearances for United over 24 seasons and won 64 Welsh international caps.
